Product Review: Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Polish (#34)

I’ve heard so much about this nail varnish that when I saw this shimmery red/purple shade in the drugstore I just had to try it out!

This polish from Bourjois is purportedly chip resistant and quick drying. Let’s see if it can live up to those claims.

Application: I started off with a single, clear bottom coat to protect my nails before applying the product. I found the fan effect brush to really ease the application process and I ended up with a neat, highly pigmented coat.

First impressions/colour: I expected the colour to be more red but found it more purple/brown but still pleasant. The slight shimmer is subtle but adds a nice party-ready finish, which is perfect for the festive season.

Usually I apply at least two thin coats of polish to get full colour coverage, however found this was perfect at only one!

Drying time: It did live up to its claims of being quick drying, however it was significantly longer than one second and I think that is to be taken with a pinch of salt! However after about a minute from application I felt safe enough to use my hands again, which is quite something!

Longevity: I usually apply a clear topcoat but I felt safe enough to skip that this time. After a day there is only one very minor chip at the tip of my right index finger. Impressive.

Rating: 4/5

It loses points for the actual colour when applied being slightly different to the packaging but the ease of application and drying time more than makes up for that. Plus it seems pretty chip-resistant!

The Bourjois 1 Seconde enamel is available at all good drugstores and costs about £6. Bargain.
